VACATION can be a therapy for your body and mind.

Jan 10, 2023 | Mental health

If you have read my previous blogs, then you are aware that I write my Bi-weekly blog based on my understanding which I acquire in my personal growth journey.

When you take time away from stresses of work and daily life, it can improve your motivations, relationships, job performance and perspective and off course physical and mental health. A vacation can help you feel refreshed and increase your threshold for stress. It will depend on individual’s taste, liking and circumstances where and how you would like to take vacation. Although one important component of taking vacation is to remove stresses of life, it will cause some level of stress nonetheless.

Stress isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It is what helped our hunter-gatherer ancestor survive, and it is just as important in today’s world. For instance, it can be healthy when it helps you avoid an accident and or meet a deadline. But stress should be temporary. Once you have passed the fight-or-flight moment, your heart rate and breathing should slow down and your muscle should relax. In a temporary stress, your body should and would return to its natural state without any lasting negative effects.

However, unlike temporary stress, Frequent and prolong stress can be mentally and physically harmful.

Can vacation help Mind—Body??

Yes, in my opinion vacation can help mind and body and act as a therapy depending on certain factors. I haven’t had vacation for almost 8-9 years until recently. I went on a 7-day cruise vacation (Baltimore to Bahamas) and really LOVE it. I had an amazing time every day on my vacation. I still feel thrill as well as peacefulness of my vacation to this day and I made sure that I do by going back to memories of my vacation. I never realized how important vacation can be for body and mind till I took my recent vacation.

Vacation is where “Pleasure meets happiness”

Yes, Time off and especially in a new environment is very helpful to all parts of our psyche. There are certain factors that can make your vacation to amazing vacation. Here are:

* The less things to worry the better. Luckily for me, I didn’t have to worry about airline tickets, hotel rooms reservation and getting taxi or Uber from airport to hotel or hotel to airport. I simply drove my car to cruise terminal and parked there. Therefore, I didn’t experience any stress before and during the vacation. However, there was downside to cruise vacation such as I only got very limited time on all of my 3 port destinations such as Charleston, SC—-Orlando, Florida—-Nassau, Bahamas.

* Chose to go to environment and place you love. I really loved ocean whether being on the beach or enjoying ocean from deck. I was the first person to arrive on the deck around 6 am and last person to leave deck for my room.

* My private room. I didn’t share my room with anybody and this made me much more comfortable. Now I am NOT suggesting you do as I did. You decide what you want and private room is what I wanted though off course I paid the price of having private room.

* Eat sensibly. You will have all the food you could eat and it is tempting to say the least. Eating food gives us pleasure and eating free food (Food is not free but feel like it because it is included) is even more pleasurable at the moment.
